STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Kaytron Allen has etched his name into the Penn State history books. With the regular season complete, official record updates confirm that the senior running back has surpassed Evan Royster to become the program’s All-Time Career Rushing Leader.
This historic achievement highlights a week of major accolades for the Nittany Lions, as both Allen and offensive lineman Vega Ioane earned All-American honors.
The New Rushing King
Allen’s consistent dominance over four seasons has culminated in the top spot on Penn State’s illustrious rushing list. Known for his physicality and vision, “Fatman” has been the engine of the Nittany Lions’ offense.
All-American Honors
The record isn’t the only hardware arriving in State College.
- Kaytron Allen: Named Second Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Third Team All-American by the Associated Press (AP).
- Vega Ioane: The dominant guard was named a Second Team All-American by both the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Ioane’s recognition underscores his status as one of the nation’s premier interior linemen, despite his decision to opt-out of the upcoming Pinstripe Bowl to prepare for the NFL Draft.
Up Next
While Ioane departs, Allen’s status for the Pinstripe Bowl remains a topic of interest as the team prepares to face Clemson in New York.
Context: The “Fatman” Legacy
Breaking Evan Royster’s 15-year-old record (3,932 yards) requires consistency that is rare in modern college football.
- Durability: Unlike many backs who rotate or transfer, Allen has been a constant force for four years. His ability to punish defenses in the fourth quarter has been his defining trait.
- The Comparison: Royster was known for his smooth, gliding style. Allen is the hammer. By averaging over 5.0 yards per carry for his entire career in a split backfield (sharing touches with Nick Singleton), Allen’s efficiency is arguably even more impressive given the lack of sheer volume carries compared to past eras.
