The Matt Campbell era is underway, and with it comes the inevitable roster reshaping that follows any coaching change.
As the Nittany Lions prepare for the Pinstripe Bowl against Duke, several key roster decisions have been made regarding the transfer portal and the NFL Draft.
Zane Durant Opts Out
Senior defensive tackle Zane Durant has announced he will opt out of the Pinstripe Bowl to begin preparation for the 2026 NFL Draft. Durant, an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection this season, was a disruptive force in the middle of the defense.
“Zane has given everything to this program,” interim coach Terry Smith said. “We support his decision and look forward to watching him play on Sundays.”
Portal Entries: Evans, Wallace, Pribula
While the transfer portal window officially opens on January 2, 2026, three notable Penn State players have announced their intention to enter.
- Beau Pribula (QB): The redshirt junior quarterback, who served as a change-of-pace option and emergency starter, is seeking a starting opportunity elsewhere. With Campbell likely to bring in competition for the QB room, Pribula’s departure was not unexpected.
- Omari Evans (WR): Speedster Omari Evans is looking for a new home after a season where he flashed potential but struggled with consistency.
- Harrison Wallace III (WR): A projected starter coming into the year, Wallace battled injuries and is looking for a fresh start.
Potential Targets?
Sources indicate Penn State is already identifying targets for the January window. Rumors are swirling around Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht and running back Carson Hansen, both of whom excelled under Campbell in Ames. Upgrading the wide receiver room is also expected to be a “priority number one” for the new staff.
Stay tuned as the roster continues to evolve leading up to the 2026 season.
