Listed on the 2026 roster but out for the season after a practice injury before Temple. The initial USC availability report on October 7 also listed Granville out; he should not be counted among the available 2026 edge rotation.
Max Granville remains on Penn State's 2026 roster as a redshirt-sophomore defensive end, but he is not available to compete for the current rotation. After appearing against Marshall and breaking up a pass, he sustained an injury in practice before the Temple game. Matt Campbell discussed losing him at the September 15 press conference, and contemporaneous reporting identified the injury as season-ending.
The setback followed an entire 2025 season missed because of injury. Penn State's official bio credits Granville with seven appearances as a true freshman in 2024, including a pass breakup on a quarterback hit against Kent State and a solo tackle against Maryland. His one appearance in 2026 should be kept separate from that earlier sample.
Granville was a consensus four-star prospect at Fort Bend Christian Academy, where Penn State credits him with 12 sacks in 2023 and 20.5 in 2022. Those high-school totals explain his upside but cannot be used as evidence of a current Penn State pass-rush role. The relevant 2026 depth-chart fact is his absence, which shifts available edge snaps to other players.
