Returning Penn State running back and former top Pennsylvania recruit. Martin has limited verified college production so far, but the 2026 roster reset gives him a more realistic path to rotation carries.
Quinton Martin Jr. is the most important in-house running back in Penn State's 2026 backfield conversation. Unlike James Peoples and Carson Hansen, he is not a transfer addition; he is a former high-profile Pennsylvania recruit who already spent a year inside the Penn State program.
Penn State's official bio credits Martin with six appearances as a true freshman in 2024, 32 rushing yards on 13 carries, three receptions for 18 yards, and a 27-yard kickoff return. Those are modest college numbers, but the context matters: he entered a room that still had Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen ahead of him.
The 2026 opportunity is different. With Singleton and Allen in the NFL, Martin gets a clearer path to compete for real carries. His value to the depth chart is continuity, receiving background, and local recruiting pedigree, but he still has to win work against transfer backs and Cam Wallace.
The useful evaluation point is versatility. If Martin can handle third-down details, receiving work, and special teams, he gives Penn State a different roster answer than a pure early-down back.
