STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The reshaping of the Penn State football roster under Matt Campbell continued on Sunday, Jan. 11, with significant news on both the departure and NFL Draft fronts.
Duzansky Declares for Draft
Long snapper Tyler Duzansky, a model of consistency for the Nittany Lions over the past three seasons, has officially signaled his intent to enter the 2026 NFL Draft. Duzansky confirmed his decision by accepting an invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl, joining teammate Tyler Warren as confirmed participants in the prestigious pre-draft showcase.
Duzansky appeared in 49 career games for Penn State, providing flawless snapping for a unit that has been among the Big Ten’s best special teams groups. He aims to become the first Penn State long snapper selected in the NFL Draft in the modern era.
Grunkemeyer to Virginia Tech
On the transfer front, former quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer has reportedly found his landing spot. Multiple sources indicate the redshirt freshman — who started the final seven games of the 2025 season, including the Pinstripe Bowl victory — has committed to Virginia Tech.
The move reunites Grunkemeyer with James Franklin, who recruited him to Penn State and is now the head coach of the Hokies. Grunkemeyer entered the transfer portal on Jan. 2, following the arrival of Iowa State transfer Rocco Becht. In his seven starts, Grunkemeyer threw for over 1,000 yards and stabilized the offense after Drew Allar’s injury, but the new staff’s offensive direction clearly favored Becht’s familiarity with the system.
Other Portal Notes
- Departures: Safety King Mack and defensive end Zuriah Fisher have also officially entered the transfer portal as of this weekend, looking for new opportunities for their final years of eligibility.
- Arrivals: The Nittany Lions officially welcomed five new transfers to campus this week, including Becht, TE Benjamin Brahmer, and OL Will Tompkins, all of whom are enrolled for the spring semester.
The transfer window remains open until Jan. 16, and further movement is expected as the coaching staff finalizes the 2026 roster.
