September 23 update: Penn State’s current official roster lists freshman Peyton Falzone, No. 14, at tight end. This is a change from the quarterback listing visible when the story was first published in August. The QB tracker and complete roster now use the current designation.
How the Position Story Developed
On August 13, Onward State reported that Falzone was practicing at tight end. The Morning Call independently described a position switch. At that point, Penn State’s roster still showed QB, so the distinction between reported practice reps and official designation mattered.
The school’s current roster has caught up with the reported move: it lists Falzone as a 6-foot-5, 216-pound TE from Nazareth, Pennsylvania. That establishes his listed position, not his place in the tight-end playing rotation or whether he has taken a game snap there.
What It Means for the Depth Chart
Rocco Becht remains Penn State’s game-confirmed starter, and Alex Manske was the first reserve used in the Marshall opener. Falzone should no longer be counted among the officially listed quarterbacks merely because he was recruited at that position. His listing also does not justify placing him ahead of Benjamin Brahmer, Andrew Rappleyea, Gabe Burkle or another tight end without usage evidence.
The next useful evidence is an official game participation record, a coach’s role description, or documented tight-end snaps. Until then, the accurate distinction is simple: listed TE; game-day role unconfirmed.
Why the Official Label Matters
August practice reports placed Falzone at tight end while Penn State still listed him at quarterback. The official roster table now lists him at tight end. That confirms a position-label change, though it does not establish his game-day role.
The new label changes where readers should look for Falzone, but it does not tell us whether he is part of a weekly offensive package. Penn State lists multiple tight ends, and game participation is the next level of evidence. A player can be rostered at a position while developing, contributing on special teams, or waiting behind an established rotation. We have not found a public two-deep that puts Falzone ahead of those teammates.
Questions the Roster Alone Cannot Answer
Three questions remain open. Has Falzone appeared at tight end in a game? Does he continue to receive any quarterback development work? If he dresses for a game, is his role offense, special teams, or emergency depth? None of those follows automatically from the TE abbreviation. The receiver and tight-end tracker keeps established production and uncertain depth separate, while the QB tracker reflects his current official designation.
This distinction also helps avoid a common depth-chart error: counting a former quarterback in both position groups because older reporting remains online. The historical August reports still explain how the story began. The current school listing controls the roster label; documented usage should control any future playing-time claim.
