Penn State at Washington: Tuesday Injury and Depth-Chart Notes

Campbell has not ruled Sowell or Howard in or out for Washington. On3 says he called Sowell probable and Howard questionable. Kickoff is Nov. 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

Penn State at Washington is Saturday, November 7. Penn State’s November 2 game notes set kickoff for 3:30 p.m. on FS1 at Husky Stadium. On3’s Greg Pickel lists the same window as 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1 and says the broadcast crew was not announced. The official schedule shows 3:30 PM EST on FS1 at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. Penn State is 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten. The game notes list Washington at 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten after a 17-10 win at Nebraska.

This is a Tuesday account of what Campbell and the beat have said. It is not a Big Ten availability report, and it does not rule anyone in or out.

Sowell and Howard are not ruled in or out

Chase Sowell and Koby Howard did not play against Purdue. StateCollege.com reported that the 2:15 p.m. ET report listed both out. PennLive also reported that both missed the 31-17 win. Howard has not played since Buffalo on September 19. PennLive describes that absence as the last five games. His 12 catches for 344 yards and two receiving touchdowns remain the through-Buffalo total on his player profile. Sowell’s last full receiving line is still Michigan: 11 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown.

After Purdue, Campbell’s official postgame answer was: “From a game planning standpoint, I think Chase is really close. I think Koby’s really close. It’ll be great to get those guys back.”

On Tuesday, November 3, On3’s Nate Bauer posted notes from Campbell’s weekly press conference, which the post says ended at 12:01 p.m. Those notes say “probable” was the word Campbell would use for Sowell. For Howard, the notes say he was still “questionable,” that Campbell would have to see where Howard is, that the rhetoric was the same, and that Howard would need to be ready before he is on the field.

Those are the coach’s Tuesday words, as recorded by On3. They are not the official list. Pickel’s game-week piece says Penn State and Washington must file probable, questionable or out designations by 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, then again two hours before kickoff. As of Tuesday afternoon, November 3, the first of those Washington-week reports was not public.

Bauer’s notes also say Campbell described a 12:35 p.m. kickoff in Seattle and a 3:35 p.m. Eastern equivalent, and that the team would travel Thursday for a day game. The published kickoff on this site stays 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1, which is the time in the November 2 game notes. Thursday travel means Wednesday night’s report is the last public list before the team leaves State College. A Wednesday designation can still change on Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

PlayerPurdueTuesday, November 3What it does not mean
Chase SowellRuled outOn3: Campbell would use “probable”Not an official report, and not a declaration that he will play
Koby HowardRuled outOn3: still “questionable”; must be ready before he playsNot ruled out for Washington, and not cleared
Amarion JacksonFirst career startOn3: Campbell said the blocks were huge and he made the most of the chanceNot a locked place ahead of Sowell or Howard

How the receiver room looked without them

Penn State’s postgame notes say wide receiver Amarion Jackson and running back Cam Wallace made their first career starts. Jackson joins cornerback Josiah Zayas as a true freshman to start a game this season. The notes say Jackson’s 22-yard catch was his first career reception of 20 or more yards.

PennLive reports the same start and lists two catches for 31 yards, including a 22-yard catch from Rocco Becht in the third quarter. In the official transcript, Campbell said, “I thought Amarian (Jackson) stepped up,” using a spelling that does not match the roster. The roster name is Amarion Jackson. Campbell said Jackson had shown himself in practice, that the next player has to step up when someone is down, that the tight ends stepped up, and that the running game helped. On Tuesday, Bauer’s notes say Campbell credited Jackson’s blocks on the runs and said he made the most of the opportunity.

The Big Ten box score lists these receptions. They are catches, not a target chart:

PlayerReceptionsYardsNotes
Benjamin Brahmer458Led the team in receiving yards
Andrew Rappleyea445Touchdown; long of 17
Amarion Jackson231Long of 22
Brett Eskildsen117
Gabe Burkle112
Carson Hansen19
Cam Wallace39
Zay Robinson17

The same box score lists Becht at 16 of 24 for 175 yards and a touchdown, and holder Nathan Tiyce at 1 of 1 for 13 yards. The play list shows Tiyce’s completion to Brahmer. Team receiving is 17 catches for 188 yards, which matches the official recap’s 188 passing yards. Brahmer’s 58 yards are the team receiving total, not 58 yards from Becht alone. The receiver tracker keeps the Michigan target chart as the last full target sample.

One game without Sowell and Howard does not set Saturday’s target order. If either receiver plays, Jackson’s first start becomes a rotation fact, not a new WR1 ranking.

Friday’s Purdue list is not this week’s list

Friday’s Purdue availability report is archived pregame history. It is not a Washington injury list. Tags from that report for Alijah Carnell, Alexander McPherson, Brian Kortovich, Omarion Davis, Jeremiah Cooper and the rest of the Friday group are not repeated here as current statuses. No Tuesday source used on this page gave those players a new designation.

Cooper’s interception and Yvan Kemajou’s sack, both in the official Purdue recap, show that those two played on October 31. They do not assign a Washington role. Alex Tatsch’s season-ending injury, reported October 13, and Will Tompkins’ season-ending injury, reported September 23, remain season facts already on file. They are not new Washington-week news.

Backfield, quarterback and the opponent

The postgame notes put Wallace’s career-high 135 yards on 22 carries and his 2-yard touchdown in his first career start. Carson Hansen had 96 yards on 17 carries and a 1-yard touchdown. Penn State rushed for 269 yards. In the official quotes, Campbell called Wallace and Hansen the lead one-two punch that night and said Wallace had earned the carries in practice. That describes October 31. It does not rank Wallace above Hansen, James Peoples or Quinton Martin Jr. for Washington. The running back tracker keeps that limit.

Tuesday’s press conference did not change the quarterback. Bauer’s notes say Campbell described Alex Manske as growing in practice, said the intent is this team this year, and said Manske would take advantage if an opportunity comes. Becht remains the starter on the Purdue line and on Campbell’s October 20 comments. The quarterback tracker has that record.

The November 2 game notes say this is the fifth meeting and that Penn State leads the series 4-0. The last game in Seattle was December 3, 1921, a 21-7 Penn State win. In 2024, Penn State won 35-6 at home. Against Nebraska, the notes say Demond Williams Jr. threw a 25-yard touchdown to Chris Lawson, Alex McLaughlin scored on a 48-yard interception return, Williams and Elijah Brown combined for 235 passing yards, and Lawson caught 12 passes for 155 yards.

The full depth chart and the 2026 schedule carry this Tuesday account beside the Purdue recap. Wednesday night’s official report is the next document that can replace a coach’s word with a conference designation.
